Traditional Chen Tai Chi

The traditional Chen Tai chi class consists of any combination of the following.

  1. The ancient practice of zhan zhuang or standing training, is described by Master Ren as Standing Mountain. The practice builds a deep balance, calms the mind with stillness, while unblocking and stimulating the flow of qi, or internal energy, throughout the body. This class is quintessential training for all levels.
  2. Our Fundamentals class teaches you the essential motor skills and foundational movements that underly all styles of Tai Chi. You will develop a deeper understanding on how to cultivate strength, stability, vigor, and stillness of mind that were first introduced in Standing Mountain, and how to move your body as a single unit with precise alignment and structure, so that qi, your internal energy flows unimpaired to all areas of your system.
  3. Silk Reeling practice or chan si jing is a unified system of movement utilizing the entire body, and is characterized by circular, spiraling motions of the trunk and limbs. These exercises will open up the flow of your internal energy qi, while simultaneously training your mind and body. This class is open to all levels.
  4. 19 Form is the beginner Chen Tai Chi open-handed form, developed in 1994 by Grandmaster Chen Xiao Wang, 19th Chen Taijiquan lineage holder.
  5. 21 Form is Master Ren’s signature form designed to be practiced in an x-shape for smaller spaces.

The prerequisites for 19 Form and 21 Form are posture, shifting, stepping, Silk Reeling, and familiarity with the form sequences from Chi Force’s corresponding online course.

The Zoom link will be sent 1-3 days prior to class.
