Broadsword Introduction
The Chen style Taiji broadsword form is a movement set that is a powerful routine derived from ancient North China saber techniques. Comprised of 22 techniques, the routine helps develop Chen Tai Chi’s unique balance of hard and soft, fast and slow, with dynamic movements that boast practical martial arts applications, as well as total body training that extends strength, power, speed, coordination, and alert relaxation, all within just five minutes of practice.
As you follow the course, pay attention to your stance and footwork as they are key to controlling the generally large movements of broadsword. Keep your grip of the weapons secure, yet relaxed and flexible, and train slowly one technique at a time before moving to the next.
When you develop proficiency in each technique, then practice in sets of three to five before executing the whole routine.
